Green Media Enterprises is dedicated to making the Green West Expo as green as possible. Together with our vendor partners, we are pleased to announce the following initiatives to green the show:
The Los Angeles Convention Center Undergoes Greening Efforts
Not content with only some of its energy use being from renewable sources (currently 20%), the Los Angeles Convention Center is working with L.A. Department of Water & Power on 100% sustainable energy sources.
Click here to read the Center’s “Green All Over” fact sheet, covering everything from energy use to recycling to sustainable catering.
As of November 2007, the Center’s food service ware has gone 100% compostable/biodegradable, eliminating a major source of waste at trade shows. Click here to read more. |
Sustainable Foods featured at the Taste of Green L.A. Welcome Reception
The Taste of Green L.A. Welcome Reception, hosted by L.A. Inc. and Green Media Enterprises is taking place following the close of the show on Tuesday, May 20. The reception will highlight sustainable menu items from leading Los Angeles restaurants including: Aventura Catering, Blue Velvet Restaurant, Border Grill, Ciudad, J Restaurant Lounge, M Cafe de Chaya, Mendocino Farms & Market/Casa, and Wilshire Restaurant. The reception is open to all registered attendees and exhibitors – click here to register. |
Shuttle Service replaced with Metro Transit Passes
Rather than increase traffic downtown by chartering shuttle buses, Green West is partnering with Los Angeles County Metro to promote downtown L.A.’s already-fantastic transit options between the show hotels and the Convention Center. Complimentary transit passes – valid for all three show days – will be provided at check-in to registered exhibitors and attendees booking a hotel room through the official housing bureau by April 25, 2008 (quantities are limited, so book your rooms early!) Click here to book your room. Go Green, Go Metro! |
Looney Bins to Provide Recycling Containers On-Site
Be sure to visit Looney Bins in booth #1111 at Green West, and find out how they are partnering with the show to provide additional recycling bins on-site – further reducing the footprint of Green West.

Gifts In Kind to Re-Purpose Exhibitor Waste Post Show
Stop by Gifts In Kind in booth #827 and learn more about this partner’s efforts to re-purpose exhibitors’ leftover exhibit material. Not only does Gifts In Kind help reduce the show’s rubbish footprint – more importantly, the re-purposed materials benefit local charities, such as the Los Angeles Union Rescue Mission. |
Champion Exposition Services to Offer ‘Green’ Options for Exhibitors’ Booths
Based on its commitment to offering green/sustainable/renewable options to the exhibitors at Green West, Champion Exposition Services has been selected as the official general contractor for Green West. Click here to see examples of ‘green’ turnkey booth packages available to exhibitors. Champion is also offering exhibitors the opportunity to feature a recyclable booth carpet as part of their exhibit.
Additionally, to reduce the amount of materials required for signage at the show, Champion and Green Media Enterprises are giving exhibitors the option to order their complimentary booth i.d. sign – potentially saving 200 signs from being printed, many of which are either discarded before the show even opens, or are blocked by exhibitors’ own booth displays.
In a bold move for the tradeshow industry, the decision was made to not carpet the aisles at the show – and instead feature the Center’s concrete flooring. What many exhibitors and attendees do not realize is that most decorators at tradeshows warehouse their carpet at central locations. For Champion, this would have meant transporting by truck thousands of pounds of carpet from their warehouse in Las Vegas to the show in Los Angeles, and then taking it back at the end of the show, cleaning it, and re-storing it. The environmental impact of the forklifts and truck transport, coupled with the energy expended to clean the carpet post show, made us consider giving the show a try au naturel!
To reduce the paper and printed material generated in support of Green West, Champion and Green Media Enterprises have decided to only offer the exhibitor services manual on-line, instead of printing and sending this notebook, which features over 150 pages of information exhibitors need to participate in the show, to each participating company. By featuring the manual on-line, we avoid printing 30,000 pieces of paper, save over 200 three-ring binders, do not use more than 200 envelopes, and prevent increases in our carbon footprint resulting from shipping these manuals via expedited delivery to the 200 exhibiting companies participating in Green West. |
Travel Partners Can be ‘Green’, Too
The travel partners for Green West were selected with an eye on compassion towards the environment. Click here to read more about discounts on Amtrak, Hertz Rental Car’s “Green Collection”, local transit options to the Center, the FlyAway bus service from LAX, and the opportunity to offset your travel through the purchase of carbon offsets. |
Marketing
Green West collateral marketing materials and the on-site show directory will be printed on FSC-certified paper. Where possible, e-mail is being used as the method of choice for communicating with attendees and exhibitors alike. |
